Farmers of Belpada and Jurabandh gram panchyats of Bondamunda block in Balangir district led by Laxman Bag are on an indefinite dharna before the district Collectorate here demanding adequate compensation to them.
They said the farmers of the two gram panchyats had got their crops insured in 2019. Even though more than a year has elapsed, they are yet to get adequate compensation. “On September 18 this year, we had submitted a memorandum to the district administration in this regard. As no remedial measure materialised, we are forced to stage an undefined dharna,” said Layman Bag. “We had insured our crops with private company Royal Sundaram, but we have not got adequate compensation. We demand a reassessment of our problems and adequate compensation,” said another farmer.
