Huge corona spike in Maha, 32 die, 597 test positive

In a huge spike in number of fatalities and infections for the second consecutive day, as many as 32 persons  died of Covid-19 on Wednesday taking the number of deaths to 432 and 597 people tested positive for Coronavirus.

A day after the pandemic claimed 31 lives and left 729 others infected, as many as 32 persons succumbed to Covid-19 in various parts of the state.

With 597 fresh infected cases reported on Wednesday, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 positive cases mounted to a staggering 9915.

Of the deaths reported on Thursday, Mumbai accounted for 26 deaths, while there 3 deaths  in Pune, one each in Solapur,  Aurangabad and Panvel

With 26 new deaths, the total number of deaths in Mumbai rose to 270, while infected cases mounted to 6644.

Of the 32 persons who died, 25 were men while 7 were women.  Seventeen of them were aged over 60 years, while 15 were in he age group 40 to 59 years. “Eighteen out of 32 patients (56%) had high-risk co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc,” a state health bulletin said.

Out of 1,37,159 laboratory samples, 1,26,376 tested negative and 9915 have been tested positive for coronavirus until Wednesday.

There are 723 active containment zones in the state currently. Total 9811 surveillance squads worked on Wednesday across the state and surveillance of 40.43 lakh population was done.

Meanwhlle, 1593 patients have been discharged till date after full recovery. Currently, 1,62,860 people are in home quarantine and 10,813 people are in institutional quarantine.
