The construction of Gas insulated power station, a first in the city, has begun in the city on Wednesday. Customary rituals were carried out at the site on Wednesday which marked the beginning of the construction work.
The project is being developed on 656.3 acres in Dhurwa area of the city. The substation will fulfill the 24x7 power needs of the city and a sum of Rs 220 crores has been made for setting up of the gas insulated power substation.
It will take a total of 18 months to build the substation. Jharkhand has been seeing the construction of AIS-Air Insulated Substation in the recent years. The commencement of this project will be a new experience for Jharkhand Power Transmission Corporation Limited.
Gas insulated power stations will be constructed using latest technology as well as under the guidance of technicians skilled in the same. Compared to the previous method, this new advanced method requires only one-fourth of the land required earlier but its cost of construction is a bit on the higher side.
Ranchi Smart City Corporation Ltd. had proposed the construction of these substations using this technology. The plan is to provide power supply from the same power sub-station to the area based for development in the smart city which stretches over an area of 656.3 acres.
The GIS Substation will be connected to Hatia and Mandar Grids. The power supply will be done directly to the newly created four substations from this very GIS Sub Station. All those establishments in the Smart City Complex will be electrified from these stations. The construction of these four sub stations will be started soon after the development of integrated infrastructure, for which the company has already been selected.
