The Union Cabinet on Wednesday decided to sell the stakes of Government in the companies including Bharat Petroleum Corporation limited and Shipping Corporation of India. The Cabinet also gave the go ahead for the proposal for transferring its entire stake in the THDCIL and North Eastern Power Corporation Limited to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), a public sector undertaking (PSU). It is pertinent to mention here that former Chief Minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat had staged a sit in at the head office of THDC at Rishikesh recently in anticipation of Government’s move. Incidentally, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had denied having any knowledge about plans of privatisation of THDC.
The CM had also accused Harish Rawat of misguiding the people of the State on the issue.
