The elections for three tier Panchayati Raj system in 12 districts of Uttarakhand barring Hardiwar would be held in three phases, on October 6, October 11 and October 16. The notification for these elections was issued by the state election commissioner, Chandrasekhar Bhatt on Friday. With this notification model code of conduct was also enforced in 12 districts of the State. The model code of conduct would remain enforced in the state till declaration of results on October 21.
The nomination for all the three phases would start from September 20 at 8 am and would continue till September 24 at 4 pm. The scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done from September 25 to 27 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 28.
For first phase of elections to be held on October 6, the symbol would be allotted on September 29 while for second phase of elections on October 11, the symbols would be provided on October 4.
Similarly for the third phase of elections scheduled on October 16, the symbols to candidates would be allotted on October 9.
Earlier on the day, the secretary Panchayat Raj R Meenakshi Sundaram issued notification of these elections.
More than 65,000 Panchayat representatives in 12 districts of Uttarakhand would be elected in these elections.
The tenure of Panchayats in all the districts of Uttarakhand barring Haridwar ended in July this year after which the State Government has appointed administrators in the Panchayats.
