The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) chairperson Usha Negi and other officials of the commission paid a surprise visit to the government run children home, home for special children and juvenile home situated in Haridwar on Friday. During the visit, various problems came to light. The SCPCR team issued directions for addressing these issues.

During Negi’s visit it came to light that the government-run homes were having fewer resources. Also, the level of sanitation of the place especially of the toilets was poor. The in charge of the campuses stated that the poor condition of the places was because of the limited resources provided to them. The SCPCR chairperson issued directions to maintain the campus in a proper way. She also assured that the commission will help the home with the resources needed.

Addressing the media during the visit Negi said, “The adoption process in the campus is slow which should have been speedy in the first place. This will help the child get a better home and a family to have a child. Also, many other problems like lack of proper sanitation came to light for which necessary directions were given.  We have assured that the resources on the campus will be provided by us. So far no such application has reached us from their side. We will try our best to resolve all the problems as much as we can.”

She further stated, “It is important for the officials designated to various duties should be punctual and honest in their work. A majority of children living in these homes fail to have a proper family. The in-charges are the only family they have which means that it is the duty of the official to take his/her responsibility seriously. Also, the timely counselling of these children should be ensured.”
