The Civil Society, Baleswar, has threatened to launch agitation if the tendering process for repair and renovation of a flyover bridge connecting FM Golai to the Sahadevkhunta bus-stand is not completed within a fortnight.
The members alleged that the PWD was adopting a dillydally approach.
As a result, the works for the bridge are moving in a slow pace despite availability of funds, they said.
According to secretary of the association Manoj Nayak, after several complaints, petitions and agitation, the State Government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the bridge work, but the progress is too slow.
After estimation, a tender was invited, which was to be opened on March13 and the contract should be finalized and awarded by March15. Although three bidders participated in the process yet the tender awarding couldn’t be completed and the actual work could not be undertaken, Nayak rued.
In a meeting last evening the association members including Gouranga Panigrahi, Basanta Saw, Pradip Chatttarjee and Sandhyarani Bhuyan, besides expressing concern over the PWD approach, threatened to take to the streets with the issue.
Lamenting that the rail over bridge was in poor state due to want of maintenance, the members also demanded its repair and security.
“The over-bridge near FM Circle is the first rail over bridge of the State. Owing to lack of regular care and maintenance, it has become unsafe at certain portions. The boundaries have developed cracks. It is a lifeline of the district and the issue should be immediately addressed, else there could be major mishap as hundreds of vehicles ply on the stretch connecting north Baleswar with the district headquarters town,” they said.
