Sipat Super Thermal Power Station of Maharatna power utility NTPC Limited established a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system based water purifying station at village Sipat at a cost of Rs 16 lakh in the year 2015 under Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development activity.
The RO water plant purifies 1000 litres of water in an hour and this purified water is being distributed by the water ATM at a cost of 20 paisa per liter, said an NTPC press release.
It is just like an ATM machine which is operated with solar energy. The beneficiaries have been provided water ATM card and 20 liter water container for better and convenient storage. The prime reason behind this CSR activity is to provide clean drinking water which is very much essential for healthy life.
Due to contaminated water disease like diarrhea, dysentery and other related disease spreads in rural areas. “After 4 year of establishment of RO water plant, we have tried to know what is the opinion of the residences of village Sipat, who are the first beneficiaries of this project,” the release said.
On this issue Rakesh Gupta, villager of Sipat said "We have used to this RO treated water, it is clean and sweet in taste and we do not have any abdominal problem after consuming this water. This is very much affordable."
Another Sipat resident Santosh Gupta said, "The effort of the NTPC towards good health of villager is commendable. It is better to take water from NTPC established RO water plant rather than purchasing a RO purifier for house from the market. NTPC treated RO water is very much affordable for a person. Being solar operated we do not face any problem due to lack of electricity.”
