Construction of Kantatoli flyover is likely to be completed by mid 2020. The work, which was supposed to commence in mid 2017 was delayed by around a year and finally started in mid 2018.
Urban Development department secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh said, “The work is being done at a fast pace and it has to completed within two months of commencement.”
Meanwhile, the beginning of construction work of second proposed flyover will take some more time as a retender for preparing the new detailed project report (DPR) has been floated three days ago.
Singh said, “The tender for making DPR was floated once earlier but had to be cancelled as only one bidder applied. The DPR has again been floated and as soon as the agency is finalised we will start working on the ground level.”
In the first approved DPR, the Harmu flyover, from Kartik Oraon Chowk in harmu to Suchna Bhavan near PLN Shahdeo Chowk was supposed to be a four lane project. However, due to various land acquisition issues, a proposal to make it three-lane was tabled.
Following this an agency was asked to prepare a new DPR, which was not approved by the road construction department and a tender inviting companies to make a new DPR was floated on January 20 this year, which was later cancelled. The new tender, which was floated on February 9, has been floated along with three other tenders for inviting proposal of making DPR of three new flyover projects. The last day for bidding is February 23.
Sources from Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited (JUIDCO), the agency authorized for implementation of construction work of flyovers informed that three new flyovers are proposed including one from Dindayal Chowk to beginning of Dibdih area via Argora Chowk, another from Lokayukta Residence to World Buddha Foundation via Karamtoli Chowk and a third one from JPSC office to Dangratoli Chowk via Lalpur Chowk.
The tender floated gives an option to the bidders to bid for either one or all four flyover projects.
Meanwhile, most of the utility shifting work for Kantatoli flyover is likely to be completed within a month, following which the work will gather pace.
Sources informed that 75 per cent work of electric line shifting and around 70 per cent work of water line shifting has been completed.
However, sources informed that water pipeline shifting is proving to be a huge problem as the underground pipelines were laid in 1968 and even the officers from Ranchi Municipal Corporation are unsure about the areas having underground lines, as there are no proper documents available regarding it.
“We are hoping that the entire electricity line shifting and one side of water pipeline shifting will be completed by the end of February after which pace of work will increase,” a source said.
The flyover being constructed with a budget of Rs. 40.3 crore would be a four lane flyover of 1.25 km stretch and 16.6 meters width. A total of 19 piers have to be constructed for the flyover of which four have been successfully in the Kokar stretch while two have been installed at Bahu Bazar stretch and three are on the verge of completion.
