Congress workers, leaders, friends and relatives of Sheila Dikshit remembered her as an affable person who gave the best advice in hour of need, a concerned chief minister who worked to make the Capital green and developed the city by constructing a web of flyovers. She is also remembered for caring everyone above party politics.
Vinnet Tyagi, 42, a Congress supporter, said “It is difficult to believe that she has left us. She was like my mother. “She treated everyone with dignity and respect. We have lost a greatest leader of contemporary India,” he said.
“This was my way of paying my last respects to her. She would meet every party worker like a mother meets her children. She gave everything to the city in her 15-year tenure as Delhi chief minister,” Rita Verma, a party worker said.
“There is dearth of such fair-minded, kind-hearted leaders. She was a Chief Minister who worked selflessly and took everybody along. I remember that she was very concerned when newspapers reported that sparrows were disappearing from the city due to rapid urbanisation,” she said.
Parvej Ansari, 56, a resident of Azadpur, remembered Dikshit as a woman with strong character and an inspiring leader with a vision.
“She cannot be compared to anyone. She was a leader who believes in change. It is a great loss. She empowered others and that’s a quality of a true leader. She fought for ordinary people so that they could lead a live dignified life,” he said.
“She was a dedicated congress worker and fought till her last breath. She kept serving the party even when she was not well. One can understand the kind of determination and passion to work for people,” said Vinod Mehta, a resident of Nand Nagri.
