Indrajit Mahanty may become Rajasthan CJ

Odisha-born Justice Indrajit Mahanty is likely to become next Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court as the Supreme Court Collegium has made a recommendation in this regard.

“Justice Indrajit Mahanty is the senior-most judge from Orissa High Court and at present is functioning, on transfer, in Bombay High Court.  Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Mr. Justice Indrajit Mahanty is suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. The Collegium resolves to recommend accordingly,” said a release.

The office of Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice will fall vacant after elevation of Justice S Ravindra Bhat to the Supreme Court.

Born on November 11, 1960 in Cuttack, Justice Mahanty was enrolled as a lawyer with the Orissa State Council in 1984 and began legal practice under his father late Ranjit Mahanty. He was elevated as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on March 30, 2006.
