Writer Hussain Rabi Gandhi on Friday joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ahead of the elections.
Gandhi, a former editor of the State Government’s Odia mouthpiece ‘Utkal Prasanga’, joined the party in presence of Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik during a programme at the Naveen Niwas.
As the countdown has begun for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Gandhi is believed to have joined the BJD with a hope to get a party ticket to contest polls or a political position.
Driven by ideals of BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, State Congress secretary and spokesperson Manju Nayak also joined the BJD at the Naveen Niwas.
Nayak has earned fame as a good organiser, a writer and a columnist. She has been a known face in Rourkela, Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar for her sustained social works.
BJD MLA Pranab Prakash Das and Naveen Patnaik’s political secretary Gopabandhu Das were present. Patnaik welcomed Gandhi and Nayak to the BJD and said their joining would strengthen the party.
