Hundreds boycott voting in 4th phase

Tuesday, 30 April 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Even as EVM glitches were reported at various polling stations in the last-phase elections in the State on Monday, many voters decided to refrain themselves from exercising their franchise as a mark of protest over varied reasons.

As per reports, over 300 voters of Baragadia Dalitsahi in the Sukinda Assembly constituency boycotted the polls in protest against the district administration’s failure to shift them from the Kalinganagar industrial area in Japur district.

Similarly, villagers of Dokadiha under Bahalada block in Mayurbhanj district boycotted the elections alleging absence of basic facilities in their area.

Besides, many voters of the Balikuda-Ersama Assembly constituency and three villages in the Patkura constituency refused to cast their votes as a mark of protest over non-fulfilment of their various demands.

Earlier in the day, technical snags in EVMs were reported at various polling stations in Jajpur, Baleswar, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak districts forcing voters to wait in long queues to cast their votes.
