A number of Gypsy jeep operators in the Corbett national park have allegedly been taking visitors in jungles neighbouring Corbett while claiming it was the national park. Following complaints from visitors to Corbett national park, the department has issued notices to 62 Gypsy jeep operators. They have been asked to provide explanation regarding allegations of duping the visitors. The permits of the jeep drivers would be cancelled if they fail to provide a satisfactory reply to the notice.

Corbett is the most popular destination for wildlife tourism in Uttarakhand. The administration has issued permits to 250 Gypsy jeep operators for taking visitors on tour in the national park. It recently came to light that some of the Gypsy operators were taking tourists to the jungles in Sitavani zone neighbouring Corbett while claiming that they were in the national park. Further, some were allegedly charging the tourists arbitrarily which was denting the image of the national park.

The Corbett national park warden Shivraj Chandra said that the administration had been receiving complaints consistently from tourists visiting the national park. Taking serious cognisance of the complaints the national park officials conducted a surprise check in Sitavani zone. There they identified 62 Gypsy drivers, finding them prima facie guilty of duping the tourists. Notices have been served to these Gypsy drivers who have been directed to reply within three days. The warden further said that by duping the tourists, the Gypsy drivers who were spoiling the image of Corbett among tourists have been identified. Their permits will be cancelled if they fail to provide satisfactory reply to the notice issued to them. Surprise checks will be carried out in the future too, added the warden.
