In compliance with its manifesto, the State Government has started construction of roads worth about Rs 214 crore in the State in the last one year. Remaining works will also be started soon after receiving funds from MORTH. Maintenance of approved routes under BOT is being undertaken as per contract. Also, on the basis of priority, action is being taken to reconstruct narrow, submerged and very old bridges on state roads and MDR.
Decision has been taken to construct a total of 2552 bridges and culverts in the state. Apart from this, a five-year plan has been prepared for the construction of bridges in the state. In this scheme 400 bridges will be constructed at a cost of Rs 2,000 crores. Every month regular video conferencing is being done to maintain the routes and maintenance work is being done from the budget available separately.
The Public Works Department has taken concrete steps to implement the commitment of the State Government. Roads and bridges costing more than Rs 10 crores are being completed with quality and within time-limit under supervision consultants. In the first phase of the NDB project, the divisional level laboratories are being upgraded.
Apart from this, works worth Rs 25 crores have also been proposed from the 15th Finance Commission grant.
Continuous efforts are being made through the Department of Revenue, Forests and Minerals to remove hurdles like land acquisition and encroachments in the ongoing and approved works being undertaken for the upgradation of national highways by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India in the National Highway Zone.
Public Works Department has completed the work of distribution of compensation in 3 out of 4 works in the National Highway Zone and about 87 percent of the compensation amount has also been paid in one work. Compensation assessment at various levels is under process in 13 works of upgradation of National Highways.
Proposals for four-lane upgradation of 3,102 km of National Highways under Bharatmala Project have been sent to MORTH. The work of upgradation of roads connecting two or more district headquarters has been completed. Administrative sanction of Rs 197 crore is being issued soon for the upgradation of 158 km long roads connecting the district headquarters to the tehsil headquarters.
Priority is being given to the construction of over-bridges and under-bridges for permanent solution to the problem of traffic disruptions due to railway lines in the State.
The works of ROB and RUB are being given priority under CRF and State budget on the basis of cast sharing of 50 per cent by Railways for inclusion in the Railway Pink Book and for having one lakh TUV.
A five-year action plan has been prepared for the construction of ROBs and fly-overs in the state. In this, 17 fly-overs and 55 ROBs worth Rs 3,540 crores will be constructed in the next five years.
