A major mishap was averted when the engine of a goods train carrying iron ore from Tatanagar in Jharkhand derailed at Kalimati near the Gorumahisani railway station in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday night.
Soon after two wheels of the engine slipped the track at around midnight, the loco pilot pulled the break immediately preventing any accident.
Later, a maintenance team from Tatanagar was called in for repair work. Meanwhile, train movement has been disrupted on the route due to the mishap with Tata-Badampahar passenger train halting near Anlajodi.
A similar mishap had occurred on the same route on September 20 when the Tata-Badampahad train had narrowly escaped an accident due to a crack developed on the track near Gorumahisani.
It is alleged that such mishaps are frequently occurring in the region due to substandard repair work of the tracks.
