nElectricity consumers of Chhattisgarh will have to pay variable cost adjustment (VCA) charge of 13 paise per unit for next two months due to increase in cost of coal and oil.
The charge has been fixed as per provision of Electricity Act section 62(4) and rules and directives of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC).
According to Power Companies Chairman Shailendra Shukla all the electricity consumers across the country pay the VCA time to time and it also fluctuates. In Chhattisgarh, the new VCA charge will be implemented from June 30, 2019.
He added that for power generation, coal and oil are required as fuel to run the power houses. The cost of both these items changes according to market rate fixed by the central government. Based on it, the electricity tariff charges are also changed by the CSERC. Based on increase and decrease, the power tariff is then hiked or decreased through VCA.
Shukla said the state has decided to adjust 51 paise per unit in the billing cycle of April and May 2017 in electricity bills and now it will adjust 13 paise per unit in the billing cycle of coming July 19 and August 19, retaining the 400 unit half electricity bill scheme.
