The Federation of Senior Citizens’ Associations of Odisha (FOSCAO) would observe the World Elders Abuse Awareness Day at the Unit-8 Community Hall here on Sunday (June 30), informed FOSCAO president KS Sahoo on Saturday.
Sahoo said the objective of the observance of the day is to create awareness in the society on how to end abuse against elderly people in families and outside.
He said, “We are trying to bring together senior citizens, their caregivers, civil society organisations and the Government to combat the problems of elder abuse.” The day is observed to encourage communities to recognise the problem of elderly abuse and to create policies that foster respect for elders and provide them the tools to continue to be productive citizens. Sahoo said the association has been continuously and vigorously raising voice and trying to focus on these challenges and highlight the abuse against the elder people.
