CM launches new emergency helpline number ‘112’

Sunday, 27 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched an integrated emergency service and senior citizen security initiative coined ‘Savera’ at Dial 100 Bhawan on Shaheed Path in Lucknow on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Yogi said that many states had adopted Emergency Service 112, a changed name for ‘Dial 100’, and it was being started in Uttar Pradesh from Saturday.

‘Dial 100’ will function simultaneously for some time before being phased out.

“We need to carry forward 112 as an integrated emergency service. Efforts should be made to promote it from today itself,” the Chief Minister said.

Yogi claimed that now people would not have to remember different numbers for different tasks. “All emergency services have been integrated for the task. If no response is received at 108, then the same service can be availed at 112. This service will help in reducing response time. The initiative to link together 108, 102 medical service, 1090 women power helpline, 181 women helpline, CM helpline, ambulance and other such services can become a good example,” the Chief Minister said.

“In order to reduce the response time of 112, its route chart should also be arranged,” he said.

Uttar Pradesh is following 20 other states and Union territories that have adopted the single emergency helpline number ‘112’.

Yogi said that in many places, especially, urban areas, elderly couple live alone and they do not have any support.

“Savera’ initiative will instil new confidence in them. We should also take similar initiatives for women’s safety as well and set up cells at police station level linked to women safety,” he said.

The Chief Minister added, “UP Police have an important role to play in ensuring peace, security and law. The trust of the common man can be gained by using technology. Many reforms have been made in the police force over a period of time and technology has been adopted,” he said.

“Police need to work with compassion and without any discrimination in order to establish law and order,” he said.

The Chief Minister said, “The success of Prayagraj Kumbh, Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Varanasi and the completion of Lok Sabha elections without any violence has presented a good image of Uttar Pradesh in the country and the world.”

DGP OP Singh said that it was a historic day when a new modern Dial 112 was launched in the state.

“This scheme shows the country’s aim for one country, one citizen and one service,” he said.

The Dial 100 was launched by the Akhilesh Yadav government in 2016 as an ambitious hi tech project for providing immediate help to citizens. The call received on its control room is immediately transferred to police stations concerned and officers for action.

The system also monitors police action until the problem is solved. Hundreds of response vehicle, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, are deployed for assisting people and taking action.
