The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here would remain partially closed for several months from February 1 for runway re-carpeting work, said BPIA Director VV Rao on Monday.
The re-carpeting process would take around eight to ten months, for which flight services at the BPIA would be suspended from 12 am to 6 am in the first phase and from 10 am to 6 pm in the second phase, Rao said, adding that timings of flights would be rescheduled accordingly.
The project would be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 28 crore. Besides re-carpeting the runways, the existing taxing tracks would be merged with the track being laid parallel to the runway during the same period.
It had earlier been decided to carry out the re-carpeting from November 1. However, it was postponed later. The re-carpeting of the runway was undertaken at the airport in 2007.
