BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya was on Saturday granted bail by a Special Court in Bhopal. He was arrested from the city on June 26 for thrashing a Municipal Corporation officer with a cricket bat.
Akash was granted bail in both the cases-beating up a government officer and demonstrating a protest in Rajbara, Indore, over power cuts in the state. The special court in Bhopal on Saturday heard the bail plea of BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya.
On Thursday, an Indore court had refused the bail plea of the BJP MLA. Thereafter, the case was transferred to Bhopal's Special Court set up for public representatives.
Akash hit headlines after a video of the assault went viral on social media, in which the MLA was seen thrashing up the government office.
Following the assault, the police registered an FIR against Akash Vijayvargiya and 10 others. The BJP MLA, son of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya was held on Wednesday for thrashing a government officer.
However, Akash justified his action by saying, "This is just a beginning. We will finish corruption and hooliganism (of civic officials). The civic officials were razing houses which were in good condition so that leaders of the Kamal Nath-led Congress government can possess the land.”
