Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday appointed party’s Member of Parliament Vikram Usendi as its Chhattisgarh unit chief replacing Dharamlal Kaushik, affecting a major change in the organisation ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
Usendi, a prominent tribal face of the party in the state, would work taking along everyone in the party to win all the 11 Lok Sabha seats to help Narendra Modi become Prime Minister once again.
Usendi’s appointment assumes major significant in backdrop of waning popularity of the party in the State. The BJP had won 10 out of the 11 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 general elections in Chhattisgarh but analysts say this time the party would suffer major setback because of Congress resurgence.
Talking to The Pioneer, Usendi denied that party was facing a tough challenge maintaining that the BJP would perform well in the upcoming general elections.
“The shameful defeat in the recently concluded assembly polls was a different issue. The scenario in the Lok Sabha elections will be totally different”, he said.
“After 15 long years of governing the State there was a sort of anti incumbency during the assembly elections which led to out defeat. The issues in general elections will be different and on the basis of achievements of the Union Government, people will vote to elect a Narendra Modi-led government once again”, he claimed.
Talking about his priority, the newly appointed BJP State president said his priority would be to work as a team to bag all the 11 Lok Sabha seats in the State.
