The Baidyanathpur police on Saturday arrested Bhagwan Sahu, the main accused in the brutal killing of Aska Congress MLA candidate Manoj Jena near Golanthra here on May 22.
The police would appeal for a five-day remand for Sahu in the local court for further interrogation to unravel more information regarding the case. Earlier, the Brahmapur police had issued a lookout circular against the accused on June 5. On June 5, police had arrested five persons in connection with the brutal murder of Jena. A total of 12 persons have been apprehended in connection with the case. While seven persons were rounded up from Aska, three were nabbed from Bhanjanagar and two from Bhubaneswar.
Notably, Jena was shot four miscreants when he was returning by car from Bhubaneswar along with one of his associates near Golanthara. The assailants after shooting him also slit his throat with sharp weapons.
Jena was rushed to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he succumbed to the injuries on May 24. His associate was also injured in the incident and was hospitalised.
