AAP gets into poll mode

Friday, 27 December 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Gearing up for upcoming Assembly elections in national Capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday sought to strike direct rapport with voters with an “Achchhe Beete Paanch Saal — Lage Raho Kejriwal” slogan. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National convener Arvind Kejriwal also answered questions on his governance in a town hall meeting with people in Constitution Club.

Delhi Chief Minister said, “We used to happily show our report cards to our parents whenever we got a good score in school and got nervous when we scored badly. I am very happy to present my report card in front of you today. I was a very studious child in school. People are supreme in a republic, and it is my duty to present my report card to the people today.”

He added the AAP has worked towards addressing issues that are the most significant for strengthening the foundation of a country. “Two such important issues are education and health. I have said this time and again, no nation can ever progress if its people are not educated. All developed nations, such as the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, London, etc, excel in the field of education and AAP has worked in these two sector,” Kejriwal said.

“Whereas private schools were good in their education and infrastructure, Government schools were in a pitiable condition. The first initiative that we have taken, is improving the quality of education in Government schools in Delhi. Now, the level of education in Government schools is on par with private schools, and the results achieved are proof of that,” Kejriwal said, adding AAP-led Delhi Government is working towards the real progress of the nation, and for that, they have arranged for quality education for your child till the 12th standard.

“In the healthcare sector, we are working towards providing free and quality healthcare to every citizen of Delhi. Earlier, even middle-class families had to sell their resources if a family member required expensive treatment in a private hospital. But today, the citizens of Delhi do not need to worry about financial resources, because treatments in the Delhi government hospitals are free for all, irrespective of their financial backgrounds,” Kejriwal added.

“We have opened more than 400 Mohalla Clinics and several polyclinics in Delhi, and have worked towards transforming the infrastructure of all the Delhi Government hospitals,” the CM said.

Answering question on his governance, ranging from women’s safety to subsidised power, Kejriwal, in his first Town Hall meeting, said ensuring a clean city would be his first priority, if voted to power in polls likely to be held by January end or early February.

Amid chants of party’s slogan for the upcoming polls “Achchhe Beete Paanch Saal — Lage Raho Kejriwal” , he said in the last five years, the AAP-led Delhi Government worked on those issues which were most important for the development of any society.

He said ensuring a clean Delhi would be his main focus in the next five years if he comes back to power.

“We will clean Delhi, clean lanes and roads of Delhi. We will clean it to the extent that you will be proud to call yourself a Delhiites,” he said. On unauthorised colonies, he urged people not to believe anyone till they get the registered documents of property in these settlements in their hands.

“And remember that whoever gives you the registry, only they are responsible for getting the unauthorised colonies regularised,” he said.
