The Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana has not only provided LPG cylinder to households but also empowered women and created a movement in the entire country, said External Affairs Minister Susma Swaraj on Friday.
Swaraj said this while gracing the 5th Ujjwala Swabhiman Utsav, held for 30 district in Odisha, through videoconferencing from New Delhi. She talked to beneficiaries of the scheme.
Stating that the women have got relief from smokes and saved time due to use of LPG in cooking, the Central Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradahan for the scheme.
During discussion, some women told Swaraj that they are now getting time to help family members in other works as they are using LPG in cooking and saving time.
Pradhan said the number of LPG distributers has been increased from 13,000 to 23,000 during the last five years.
As many as 60,000 women participated in the week-long Ujjwala Swabhiman Utsav.
