A 46-year-old woman who had sustained burn injuries on January 4, succumbed to death while undergoing treatment at Hamidia hospital on Sunday. The deceased had got injured at her house at Chandbadi slum after massive fire broke out at the slum on January 6.
According to the police, the deceased Sarju Bai sustained burn injuries at her house and was rushed to a Hamidia hospital where she died while undergoing treatment. After the preliminary investigation the body was sent for the post mortem and a case under section 174 of the CrPC was registered. Notably, thirteen persons including three women were injured in a major fire which broke out at Chandbadi slums in Chhola Mandir area in which six shanties were gutted in fire in the morning on January 6.
The fire which broke in the morning soon engulfed half a dozen shanties and around three shanties were damaged badly and household goods were burnt to ashes.
In the investigation it was found that the fire broke when Santosh Sen of the slum was changing LPG cooking cylinder at his house and which spread to adjacent shanties. In the fire more than two dozen fire tender vehicles took around two hours to pacify the fire.
Police said that out of the 13 injured Santosh Sen and Sarju Bai sustained major burns in the incident and were under observation later during treatment Sarju Bai died. Out of the 13 injured this is the first casualty which has been witnessed after 8 days.
