Domestic violence remains among the biggest challenges being faced by the women in the State’s provisional Capital. According to the data provided by the One Stop Centre (OSC) in Dehradun, domestic violence tops list of gender crimes.
A total of 377 alleged domestic violence cases have been registered since December, 2017 till now at the OSC. Out of these, 107 cases are still pending.
According to the data, the reasons for pendency are legal help, police help and counselling wherein 51 cases required legal help, 12 police help and the rest are being handled by personal counselling.
Other than domestic violence child sexual abuse seems to be another serious threat with 18 child sexual abuse cases being registered till now. Although 17 out of 18 cases have been resolved, the number of crimes against children is alarming. Legal aid is being given in the case which is pending.
The data shows that a total of four alleged cases of sexual harassment were registered. Almost all the four were resolved mainly through counselling.
Cases registered in other category are 43 out of which three are pending. Police help and counselling are being provided in two of three pending cases.
One Stop Centre scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme for setting up OSCs across the country. The scheme is being implemented since April, 2015.
These centres are being set up across the country to provide support and assistance to women who are being affected by gender crimes.
OSCs were initiated to support women affected by violence, in private and public spaces, within the family or at workplaces. The scheme does not have any age bar. The Centre is open for assisting any woman irrespective of her age or marital status.
