‘Make energy conservation and power saving a part of your lifestyle’

Wednesday, 18 December 2019 | PNS | Jabalpur

Energy Minister Priyavrat Singh asked the power consumers on Energy Conservation Week to make energy conservation and power saving a part of their lifestyle. He said that saving electricity is the biggest demand of the hour for a happy and safe future.

Priyavrat Singh said that the aim of celebrating Energy Conservation Week is to bring awareness among consumers towards energy conservation. Energy conservation does not mean that energy or electricity should not be used, but rather that electricity is used efficiently and judiciously. It has been proved through various surveys that huge amount of electricity is wasted due to inadvertence of the consumer. Misuse of electricity can be prevented if electricity consumers take a little care. A small amount of savings from each consumer can be converted into huge savings of electricity.

The Energy Minister said that as per the intention of Madhya Pradesh Government, at present, 24 -hour electricity is being provided to domestic consumers and industries and 10 hours to agricultural consumers.

In such a situation, the goal of supplying 24-hour power to the citizens of the State cannot be accomplished only by increasing power supply, but for this, energy conservation and consumer efficiency management will also be adopted. In addition to industries, the maximum potential for energy savings is in agricultural work, street lights and domestic lighting.

Singh said that one crore 75 lakh 31 thousand 165 LED bulbs have been distributed in the state under the “Ujala Yojana” launched for the purpose of energy conservation. While the amount of electricity bills of consumers’ homes decreased through LED bulbs, the important goal of energy conservation was also achieved. Due to the Ujala Yojana, Madhya Pradesh has saved 22,76,720 MWH (MW per hour) of energy and Rs  911 crore per year. The reduction of 18,44,143 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum was possible with the saving of 456 MW of conventional electricity at the time of highest demand for electricity. Along with this, it has also helped in protecting the environment both directly and indirectly.

The Energy Minister said that with the efforts of Power Transmission Company, transmission losses have reached the minimum level of 2.71 percent. The generating company has produced more power with the saving of oil and coal. Due to the three distribution companies of the state working under R-APDRP to reduce AT&C losses, the power losses have been reduced.

Around 365 KW of power is being produced from the rooftop power plant at Shakti Bhawan, the headquarters of power companies.

In the last three and a half years, Rooftop Solar Plant of Shakti Bhawan has generated 16.68 lakh units of electricity. Atleast 11.96 KW roof top electricity is being produced in the headquarters premises of Central Region Power Distribution Company in Bhopal. To propagate Akshay Urja in every house in the state, a decentralized renewable energy policy has been implemented.
