The UP Congress expelled party leader Sanjay Dikshit

Wednesday, 28 February 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

The Uttar Pradesh Congress finally expelled party leader Sanjay Dikshit for attacking former BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui, who recently joined Congress in New Delhi.

Earlier, the party had issued a show-cause notice to Dikshit but he refused to reply and instead went to the media and launched another scathing attack on Siddiqui and even demanded a probe to find out which Congress leaders facilitated the former BSP minister’s entry into the party.

State Congress chief Raj Babbar took cognisance of Dikshit’s move of approaching the media instead of replying to the disciplinary committee and expelled him from primary membership for six years. Dikshit was also removed from all party posts on Tuesday.

Former chairman of Congress MGNREGA Committee, Dikshit recently tried to get a Congress ticket for his wife from lucknow for mayoral elections. But after Siddiqui joined the Congress in New Delhi on February 24, Dikshit criticised the move on Facebook . He alleged that Siddiqui joining Congress would give the BJP an option to attack the party for corruption as the former BSP leader had been accused of several irregularities as Mayawati’s Cabinet minister. Dikshit even attacked Siddiqui as he was welcomed by AICC chief Rahul Gandhi soon after his entry into the party.
