Surrendered Naxal couple casts vote, lauds democracy

A surrendered Naxal couple cast their vote on Monday at a leftist militancy hit area in Narayanpur Assembly constituency and asserted that only democracy could bring peace and prosperity in sprawling mineral-rich Bastar.

First phase of polling was held in 18 assembly constituencies spread over Bastar and Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh. The polling was largely peaceful.

As per details available, surrendered Naxal couple Mainuram alias Malol alias Bandu with wife Rajbatti Dugga alias Ameshwari Dugga resident of Uchchakot of 84-Narayanpur Assembly constituency, reached their polling centre number 49 and cast their vote.

Rajbatti Dugga was commander of Kiskodo Dalam (LOS) while her husband Mainuram was Militia member of same dalam. The couple had been active for two years. Both had surrendered before the police in year 2014. At present, Mainuram is working as a mason and taking care of his family.

During discussion, the surrendered Naxals said that under the police rehabilitation policy, at district headquarters Narayanpur, they have been given financial assistance for purchase of residential plot and to construct a house.
