Koraput Congress MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria on Tuesday announced his resignation from the State Assembly saying that he, despite all efforts, couldn’t provide justice to the Kunduli gangrape victim.
“I fought a lot to provide justice to the Kunduli victim and her family. After moving from pillar to the post, I staged a dharna at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Still, I couldn’t provide justice to the victim. To expedite my fight for protection of women, I have resigned from the MLA post,” Sagaria said at a Press meet here.
Blaming the State Government for doing little to provide justice to the girl and her family, Sagaria said he would continue to fight for the rights of women and the Dalit community in his constituency.
Sagaria too informant that he and Congress Dalit activists would hold a rally in the State capital city on BR Ambedkar’s birthday on December 6 and resolve to fight for protection of the Constitutional rights of poor Adivasis.
It may be noted that a minor girl was allegedly gangraped in a forest near Kunduli under the Pottangi police limits in Koraput district in October 10, 2017. She had later allegedly committed suicide in her house on January 22. Later speaking to The Pioneer, Sagarai said, “I will submit my resignation to Speaker Pradeep Kumara Amat personally on November 6 as the latter is absent in the Assembly today.”
