Taking a digital leap in its initiatives to provide better and efficient services to the citizens under the e-initiative program, Punjab Police on Wednesday launched FIR tracking via SMS facility.
The state Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora launched the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) based SMS service for the complainants to bring transparency and efficiency in its services to the people of Punjab.
launching the quick SMS service at Punjab Police headquarter, DGP Arora said that complainants would now get SMSes on their registered mobile numbers about the registration of their FIRs and details of investigating officers (IOs) assigned to investigate their cases. They would also receive the names and contact numbers of IOs through the message facility, he said.
Arora said that the citizens could also download the copy of FIR from Punjab Police website. “SMS alert would be sent to complainants in case of arrest of the accused, change of the IO and submission of challan or final report,” he said. The DGP said that the citizens, who wish to receive such SMS alerts, are advised to update their mobile numbers during registration of FIR.
