Private bus operators have withdrawn their strike after 12 days and informed the High Court of Uttarakhand about the same on Tuesday. The high court has directed the State Government to take action on the demands of of the private bus operators within two weeks.
It is pertinent to mention here that in support of their demand for fare hike and protesting against alleged harassment by enforcement authorities, the private bus operators had been on strike for the past 12 days in the State. The Garhwal Motor Owners Union (GMOU) limited, Kumaon Motor Owners Union (KMOU) limited, Kumaon Adarsh Motor Samiti and the All India Transport Union were part of the strike. The protestring transporters were demanding that the Government hike their fare rates on the lines of hike in roadways fares.
They had also alleged harassment by the police and transport authorities issuing challans for overloading and also cancelling the license and permit of bus drivers. Hearing the matter, the high court directed the State Government to address the issues raised by the private bus operators within two weeks.
On the other hand, the bus operators were also directed to submit their proposal to the state government within one week.
It will be recalled here that the strike by the private bus operators had caused major inconvenience to the public in the mountainous regions of the State.
