The Jharsuguda Airport is now fully developed and will be inaugurated on September 22 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Initially, two small airlines will provide flight services from Jharsuguda under UDAN scheme. But as the airport has been eligible for flight services of big aircrafts like Boing 377 and A 320, Jharsuguda will soon be connected with major cities of the country.
"Being the only airport of western Odisha all major airlines will provide flight services via Jharsuguda," said Airport Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Guru Prasad Mohapatra . On Friday morning, Mohapatra visited Jharsuguda to oversee the infrastructure and security arrangements of the airport before its inauguration.
He also went around the runway of the airport along with AAI and DGCA officials. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Brajrajnagar MLA Radha Rani Panda discussed inauguration arrangements with Mohapatra.
