The Delhi Police has arrested a 34-year-old man impersonating as an Indian Police Services (IPS) officer during a checking drive on Wednesday night at Hari Nagar area in the national Capital. The imposter was caught while he was driving a car with the Delhi Police sticker and red flash. Police officials said they are probing the source of sticker as it appeared to be computer generated.
“The accused is identified as Divay Malhotra a resident of Meenakshi Garden. As per order by Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, strong pickets were deployed on the major arterial roads and patrolling was intensified in the West district when around 10 : 20 pm a Hyundai Accent car with a Delhi police ‘logo’ and flashing ‘beacon’ light used by Delhi Police was stopped,” said Monika Bhardawaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), west district.
“On enquiry, he informed that he is an IPS officer and started rebuking the staff at picket. His behaviour, activities and personal appearance were found suspicious following which the police staff on picket asked him to produce his identity card, on which he became furious and started threatening the staff that he is a son of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the Delhi Police. The staff detained him for questioning and later arrested for faking his identity,” said the DCP.
“During interrogation, the accused revealed that his parents are doctors.
The accused father runs a private clinic in his house while his mother has been retired from Lady Harding Hospital and is presently teaching in a private university. Accused runs a Cyber Café by the name of Cyber Planet in Meenakshi Garden and to create an impression on friends and society, he was using the
police beacon, siren and logo said the DCP.
