Thursday, 29 November 2018 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Ruckus was created by BJP party workers led by Mayor Alok Sharma and BJP candidate from Bhopal North Fatima Sidiqui, at DIG Bungalow road and Gautam Nagar police station after two workers of BJP were attacked by a mob at Arif Nagar which was opposed from entering a polling booth.

Heavy security was deployed at Gautam Nagar police station where large number of BJP party workers barged and gheraoed police station and blocked traffic at DIG Bungalow.

The swift action taken by police prevented untoward action after the clash occurred at around 5 pm in Arif Nagar. Case would be registered after the preliminary investigation, said police. Police said that in the incident, the two workers including Pankaj Chouksey and Rajesh Kanojia sustained severe injuries and they were taken to a nearby hospital where their condition is reportedly stable.

BJP corporator Manoj Rathore alleged that the two party workers were trying to control the mob which had women in big numbers as there has to be discipline and decorum at the polling booth but they went the other way and attack the BJP party workers.

The scenes which were created emerged after Pankaj and Rajesh engaged into scuffle with supporters of Arif Aqeel and were stone pelted as they over numbered the two.

Soon after receiving the information BJP candidate Fatima Siddiqui and City Mayor Alok Sharma reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

The BJP party workers which gathered in large number at Gautam Nagar police station demanded to lodge a complaint against Congress candidate Arif Aqeel.

Defending the attack on the two injured Congress corporator Najma Ansari said that the attack was fuelled only after the Congress supporters were manhandled.
