Weatherman HR Biswas has been appointed as the new director at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
Biswas, a scientist at the Kolkata MeT Centre, would take charge on June 1 replacing outgoing Director Sharat Chandra Sahoo, who is to retire on May 31.
Recently, Biswas had visited the Bhubaneswar MeT Centre.
SC Sahoo served 14 years as the Director at the Regional MeT office in Bhubaneswar. On basis of forecasts provided by Sahoo, the Odisha Government had successfully tackled the situation during the cyclones Phailin and Hudhud.
Sahoo is the longest-serving weatherman among 14 scientists appointed as the Director at the Bhubaneswar MeT Centre since 1973.
