7 people were killed in road accidents during Holi in UP

Seven people were killed in separate road accidents during Holi in Uttar Pradesh.

In Barabanki, five people were killed in three road accidents. Circle Officer (Sadar) Sushil Kumar said that all three accidents involved motorcyclists, including one in which two people were visiting the district for a ‘Holi Milan’ programme.

Two people died in Banda after their motorcycle collided with the official car of City Magistrate. Additional SP Bharat Kumar Pal said that City Magistrate Ramesh Chandra Tiwari was going to Tindwari to greet people on Holi, when two bikers rammed into his official car and were seriously injured. They were rushed to a hospital where they succumbed. The City Mahistrate and two other occupants of the car were also injured. The driver has been detained.

Meanwhile in Bareilly, at least 16 people were injured in violent clashes and stone-pelting incidents on Friday.

SSP Joginder Kumar said that stones were hurled on people participating in a Holi procession in Rampura-Kamanpur village as a result 10 persons participating in the procession were injured. Senior district administration and police officials reached the spot and the situation has defused.

In Narayan Nagla village of Bareilly, two groups clashed and opened fire in the air during Holi celebrations.

“In the violence, five people were injured. Four of them have been hospitalised,” the SSP added.

Bareilly District Magistrate Raghvendra Singh said that two persons were arrested in connection with the Narayan Nagla incident and a case was registered against seven people under various sections of the IPC.
