An estimated 61 percent turnout of the voters was recorded for the repolling in 73 polling booths in Kairana lok Sabha seat on Wednesday. The polling for the by election in Kairana was held on Tuesday. The Election Commission had ordered the repoll following the large scale complaint of the malfunctioning of the Electronic Voting machines (EVMs. The counting of votes will be held on Thursday.
The Chief electoral officer of UP Venkatshwar lu said here the polling commenced at 7 am and concluded at 6 pm. He said the polling was peaceful. The CEO said of the repoll in 73 polling booths, 68 were in Saharanpur district and rest 5 in Shamli district. Two assembly segments of the Kairana lok Sabha seat Nakur and Gangoh are located in Saharanpur district.
CEO said 10 companies of the central Para military force were deployed for maintaining law and order and ensuring free and fair poll. He said there was no report of any malfunctioning of the EVMs or VVPAT machines. The authorities have kept 200 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines and 20 engineers at the polling booths to attend to the problem of malfunction in EVMs.
Polling, held in Kairana lok Sabha seat on Tuesday was disrupted in several booths following malfunctioning of the VVPAT machines due to hot weather condition.
