A large number of teachers under the aegis of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) and All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO) and Federation of Central Universities' Teachers' Associations (FEDCUTA) jointly protested against the “Draft UGC regulation pertaining to 70:30 funding formulae for central universities”. The teachers also formed a small human chain in front of UGC in order to show their strength.
AK Bhagi, President of National Democratic Teachers' Front (NDTF), said that the detail notification of the Ministry of Finance makes it clear that the Central Government will fund more than its stake of 70 percent if a college or university is not able to meet its requirement of 30 percent. “There would be no difficulty in getting a grant even if a college fails to meet its 30 percent the Central Government will bear it,” said Bhagi.
“Earlier in 80:20 formulae also, the government has funded more than 80 percent to support universities and colleges. Even this time the government will fund more than 70 percent if required. Also it may bear the total cent percent if required,” said AK Bhagi.
