Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is soon going to extend its Red line from Dilashad Garden to New Bus Stand in Ghaziabad. The extension of the oldest line of Delhi Metro is set to start by the second week of October 2018.
Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) Vice Chairperson and the District Magistrate (DM) Ritu Maheswari on Tuesday showcased the beautification and paintings carved on the metro pillars at Meerut Tiraha. Addressing the media , Maheshwari said DMRC will conduct the trial runs on this section for 15 days to check the technical issues and other safety issues.
“We are working on several other projects to make the Ghaziabad city more beautiful and accessible for both the people of Delhi and NCR. The extension of Red line will start by October this year,” said the DM.
Mahewshwari further added that out of 600 metro pillars from Dilshad Garden to New Bus stand, around 300 pillars have been beautified with the paintings.
The paintings on these pillars are about culture and nature. Around12000 sapling has been planted on the centre verge and side greens on the entire Corridor. To protect these plants the tree guards and fencing have been installed.
Further, according to a senior official, the corridor will pass through the Sahibabad Industrial Area and to significantly impact the residential areas lying in proximity.
The metro line will connect residents of Ghaziabad with several other parts of Delhi-NCR such as Shahid Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park,Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon River Station and the New Bus Adda.
Currently, commuters travel till Dilshad Garden and take sharing auto to reach Sahibabad. This corridor is an extension of the presently operational Dilshad Garden-Rithala corridor (line 1) also called the Red line.
