A range of cultural and recreational events will be held as part of the Nainital winter carnival slated to be held for three days from December 15. The Nainital District Magistrate Deependra Kumar Chaudhari informed that the winter carnival will have various cultural performances and competitive events planned across three days.
While popular music performances are expected to appeal to a wider crowd, local folk artistes will be given an opportunity to showcase the native culture of Uttarakhand.
Elaborating about the event, the District Magistrate said that starting on December 15, the Winter Carnival will have programmes organised for children, youth and older adults. Among other attractions, Kumaoni cuisine will also be available for visitors to the festival. On the inaugural day, a cultural procession will be taken out to the main event venue at DSA ground.
Tableaux from Uttarakhand and various other parts of the nation will be part of of this procession. At the same time, a lake carnival will also be organised on the Naini lake.
In the evening, various cultural programmes will be organised on the main stage from 6 PM. He further informed that on the first night, an Uttarakhand stars night will be held. Artistes from the State including Meena Rana, Pappu Karki, Kalpana Chauhan, Jitendra Tumkiyal and others will perform on the occasion. later, on December 16, the evening performances will have ‘little champ’ Rajan Srivastav, Udai Dahiya and Sanmukh Priya of Saregamapa fame among others. Additionally, a best dancer of Nainital competition and various other activities will also be held on the occasion. On the occasion of the conclusion of the Nainital winter carnival on December 17, Zubin Nautiyal and party will perform for the crowd. Apart from these programmes, Pagal Gymkhana will also attract visitors to the winter carnival with its mix of fun and games.
The District Magistrate further informed that during the winter carnival, a hotel decoration competition, film festival, art competition for children, paragliding, food festival, photography competition, drama competition and trekking will also be held.
On the spot painting competition will also be held for children from nursery level to class XII. Those interested in participating should register by December 14 at the office of the city education officer.
