Three killed as truck hits ambulance in Baleswar

Three persons were killed after a truck hit an ambulance carrying a pregnant woman and her relatives on NH-16 at Barungadia Square in the Jaleswar area in Baleswar district late on Monday night.

The deceased were the husband and uncle of the pregnant woman and an ASHA worker.

The woman sustained critical injuries in the accident and was admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.

According to reports, Sumitra Dalei (20), the pregnant woman, was being shifted to the Baleswar District Headquarters Hospital from the Jaleswar hospital by a ‘Janani Express’ ambulance.

A speeding truck dashed against the ambulance at Barungadia from behind killing the ASHA worker Namita Dey on the spot.

Sumitra, her husband and uncle and mother person were grievously injured in the mishap and were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where her uncle succumbed to his injuries.

Her husband also died while being shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital.
