Students stage dharna before DM's residence, demand road

Wednesday, 31 May 2017 | PNS | RAYAGADA

In a unique protest over lack of a road to a village in Rayagada district, school and college students of the locality staged a dharna in front of the district Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar’s residence here on Tuesday.

The students of Podomara village under the Kumbhikota police limits staged the sit-in demanding proper road connectivity to the village.

In a letter to the Collector, the students said that though their village is just one km from the Rayagada-Koraput main road, it is yet to get a road despite repeated complaints in this regard.

The present poor road condition is creating problems in pursuing education, distribution of PDS rice, health services and carrying of pregnant women to hospitals, they said in the letter.

The students said they would stage a dharna on the Rayagada-Koraput main road on June 6 if their demand is not met.
