State Govt to allot land for CBSE regional office in Dehradun

Sunday, 02 April 2017 | Gajendra Singh Negi | Dehradun

Threat of shifting of the regional office of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from Dehradun forced the Uttarakhand government to release land for the office in state capital. The Dehradun regional office of CBSE is working in a rented accommodation for the last three and half years. Initially reluctant to hand over land for CBSE office, the state government has now decided to allot a plot of land measuring 1.5 acres near IT park on Sahastradhara road to the CBSE.

The office of the CBSE Dehradun was set up in January 2014 by taking away many districts of Western Uttar Pradesh and 13 districts of Uttarakhand from the Allahabad region. The CBSE took a building located on Kaulagarh road, Rajendra Nagar area of the city and started the office.  The first regional officer of Dehradun region Manoj Srivasthava had requested the district and state administration for allotting land for the office but his requests elicited no response. It is learnt that last year the CBSE officials told the state administration in no uncertain terms that the Dehradun could lose the office to some city of Western Uttar Pradesh if the land is not allotted for the office. The threat worked and the state government cleared a piece of land for the office.

The Regional Officer of CBSE Dehradun, Ranvir Singh told The Pioneer that the CBSE is paying a monthly rent of Rs 10 lakh per month for the regional office which probably is highest in India. It made sense for the CBSE to scot for a land in the city so that it could build its own office. The Regional office informed that he is expecting a final allotment letter for the land soon. Singh said that the regional office of Dehradun had more than 1600 schools located in all 13 districts of Uttarakhand and 15 districts of Western Uttar Pradesh.
