Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MlA and the newly-elected leader of the Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Sunday expressed confidence that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, with his indomitable spirit, would succeed in safeguarding the state’s precious water resources.
Khaira, speaking at the bhog ceremony of Capt Amarinder’s mother Rajmata Mohinder Kaur, described the Chief Minister as a “saint statesman” who had resigned from the Parliament over the attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib and then from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha in protest against Operation Black Thunder.
He had even earlier shown exemplary courage to save the state’s waters during his previous term as chief minister, by passing the Water Agreements Termination Act, said Khaira, adding that he was sure that Capt Amarinder would once again come to the rescue of Punjab and its people.
In an apparent reference to the Sutlej Yamuna link (SYl) canal issue, Khaira said that Capt Amarinder had the ability to protect Punjab’s waters and ensure that its people are not deprived of this much-needed resource.
