German language camp held at DPS Ranchi

A two-day German language Camp “Hallo Deutschschule kicked off at Delhi Public School, Ranchi in association with Goethe Institute Max Mueller here on Saturday. The chief guest for Saturday’s inaugural ceremony was Basant Kumar Goswami, Chairman Tribunal of Commercial Tax, Government of Jharkhand.

As many as 80 students of VI-IX of DPS Ranchi, DPS Bokaro, Kendriya Vidylaya Bokaro, Kendra Vidylaya Hinoo, Kendra Vidylaya Hazaribagh, Kendra Vidylaya Maithon and Kendra Vidylaya Tatanagar participated in the camp. The purpose of the camp is to help students interact with the other student with same interest and share different ideas with each other.

The resource person of the camp was Archna Rani, Director German language Centre, Patna & Delhi. The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp and a welcome song in German.

Dr Ram Singh, the Principal of the school, who had recently returned from his Germany trip welcomed the participants and their escort teacher and said that it was the first time that the school was organising this camp, which was the next step of DPS Ranchi towards making the students a global citizen. He also said it was a great exposure for the students to know and understand Germany, its traditions, it culture and about its education system.

Chief Guest Basant Kumar appreciated the initiative taken by the school and said knowing a foreign language was a positive point as it not only helped a person know foreign culture and make good relations but also helps in getting good job opportunities overseas with a handsome package.

After the inaugural ceremony, the day continued with multifarious activities in which they formed groups to help the students interact with their fellow participants. The activity was to choose their favourite colour, food, sport, actor etc. In order to make the activities more interesting the students were asked to make German words with the letters provided to them.

later the students were divided into two groups according to the colour of their t-shirt. The students of classes VI&VII were provided with grey t-shirts and the students of classes VIII&IX were provided with green t-shirts and named the groups according to their colour.

The Grey Group was taught about time in German whereas the Green Group was taught about the culture and traditions of Germany.

Thereafter the students were divided into groups according to the rooms allotted to them. The rooms have been named after the famous monuments of the Germany, namely: Brandenburger Tor, Reichtagsgebaude, Bremer Stadtmusikanten, Holstentor, Ruschhaus, Schloss Neueschwanstein and Ganseliesel. Each group consisting of 9 members had to prepare different models as per the assignment. These models will be judged tomorrow and the winners will be awarded. The day ended with a camp fire and a dance party organized for the refreshment of the students.
