The employees of various Government departments and members of employees’ associations met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday and thanked him for the the much-awaited implementation of 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations.
The implementation of the 7th Pay would benefit around 4.5 lakh Government employees and 3.5 lakh pensioners and it would cost the State exchequer Rs 4,500 crore.
Odisha Non-Gazetted Karmachari Sangha president Braja Kishore Nanda said, "During the 17-year tenure of the Chief Minister, both the 6th and 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations were implemented, which has given immense joy to the employees. We have come to express our gratitude to him."
"The anomalies which were present in the 6th Pay Commission have been removed in 7th Pay Commission. The 14.5 percent hike in the salary of the employees on an average has made all of them very happy and we are here to thank the CM for this positive step," said Odisha Finance Service Union president Nihar Ranjan Swain.
This implementation has come as a Durga Puja gift for the employees and the pensioners as the revised pay will be effective from September, 2017.
