BMC move to scrap wall paintings decried

Wednesday, 31 May 2017 | PNS | BRAHMAPUR

The Ganjam district unit of the All Odisha Painters’ and Advertisement Workers’ Association has written a letter to the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner demanding stopping of erasing of the advertisements on the walls of all the Government institutions by painting them in white colour.

The association said by this their livelihood would be severely affected. How far it is justified that without issuing notices and giving advertisement in the newspapers, the BMC authorities took this step. This has become the topic of discussion, said the association.

The Association further said for the last 40 years the painters have earning their livelihood by wall paintings. Has the BMC authorities made any alternative arrangement for them to look after their families. If they have done so, they should inform the association. Now the demands for flex painting have increased tremendously, for which the painter were forced to earn their livelihood by taking up whatever they got.

Now by the BMC authorities step would affect hundreds of painters. So keeping this in mind, the authorities should make some alternative arrangements for their livelihood, said association president Digambar Jena and secretary Sudhir Maharana.
