Akshay Tritiya auspicious for wedding, buying gold

Sunday, 30 April 2017 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

As the Akshay Tritiya holds significance for the Hindus for launching new ventures, it is also considered an auspicious day for wedding.

According to Hindu belief, love between a married couple continues to grow and will not decay if the wedding will take place on the holy day of Akshay Tritiya, which falls on third lunar day of the month of Vaishakha in the Hindu calendar.

The couple who ties the knot on this day is blessed with prosperity and happiness. There is also a belief that the negativity gets over if the couple whose horoscopes are mismatched wed on this day. There is no place for negative vibes if the marriage is scheduled on the day.

The grand wedding of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s son Abhisekh Bachchan with actress Aiswarya Rai was one of the best examples. The couple tied the knot on the Akshay Tritiya in 2007.

The day is also observed as the birth anniversary of lord Parshuram, an incarnation of lord Vishnu. As the meaning of Akshaya denotes something that cannot be destructed, starting a new venture or investing something brings positive results. Perhaps this is the reason the Hindus prefer to buy gold on the Akshay Tritiya wishing long-term prosperity for their families.

The farmers in Odisha also celebrate the day with Akhi Muthi Anukula programme for hazard-free cultivation throughout the year. The construction of

chariots of lord Jagannath for the world famous Rath Yatra (car festival) also begins on the day.
